Which universities are covered, which professors are listed, and where the data comes from.
We used OpenAlex to count how many papers each institution published at 13 top-tier (T1) AI conferences in 2023–2025. Only universities were kept, and a regional quota was then filled in order of paper count: 15 in North America, 8 in Europe and 7 in Asia-Pacific.
Without quotas, nearly two thirds of the list would be universities in China, which would not reflect where most applicants actually apply.
Coverage is a collection scope, not a ranking.

A professor is listed only when all of the following are true.
Someone who appears in two directories is listed once, under one institution, unless they hold a formal dual appointment.
Professors come from official department faculty directories. Papers, members and alumni come from each lab's own homepage. When a homepage lists fewer than three papers from 2023–2026, has no publication page, or links only to Google Scholar, DBLP fills in the papers.
Tiers are venue classifications, not lab rankings.
Data generated on . 2,572 labs are listed. Labs are collected again every quarter (January, April, July and October) and once more in August.
Universities were ranked by their papers at top-tier (T1) AI conferences in 2023–2025, counted with OpenAlex, and a regional quota was filled in that order: 15 in North America, 8 in Europe and 7 in Asia-Pacific. A professor is listed when they hold a faculty title in a CS, AI, ECE or robotics directory, publish at T1 venues or work in one of our 10 fields, and have a lab or personal homepage.
T1 marks papers at a fixed list of top-tier AI conferences and journals, with the same venue list for every lab. Tiers are venue classifications, not lab rankings.
Labs are collected again every quarter (January, April, July and October) and once more in August. The data on the site was generated on Oct 26, 2026.
Only professors are named. Members are counted and alumni are summarised by where they went, so no student, alumni or postdoc name is stored or shown.
